The Problem with your AI

The Problem with your AI

March 30, 2026

The problem isn't the AI.
It's the context.

If you want an AI to actually be helpful, you have to treat it like a new hire- giving it context, samples of what good looks like, and repeating context daily. You wouldn’t expect a teammate to know your career goals or your specific writing “vibe” by magic. You’d give them a briefing. To bridge the gap between “technical tool” and “strategic partner,” you need four specific “Context Files.” Here’s how to build them and how to prompt Gemini to use them effectively.

Stop Starting from Zero

Every time you open a new chat, you’re essentially introducing yourself to a stranger with amnesia. By default, AI doesn’t know:
→ Who you are (your experience and expertise)
→ What you’ve built (previous projects or data)
→ What matters to you (your specific goals and KPIs)

When you provide a “Context File,” you stop working harder and start working smarter. You move away from “default thinking” and toward personalized, high-value outputs.

Why does an “About Me” file solve the “Generic Bot” problem?
AI systems are trained on the entire internet. Which, unfortunately, includes a lot of mediocre corporate fluff. Without instructions, the AI defaults to that “average.” A “Context File” acts as a filter. It tells the AI: “Ignore the generic noise; focus on these specific facts and this specific style.”

The Result: Instead of an AI guessing what you want, it produces answers that actually sound like you and help you achieve your specific outcomes.

Take Action - Below I have suggested 2 types of context files, one for your personal "About Me" and one for your professional "Voice". Take a look at the examples below to get started.

How do you use these prompts?

  • Copy and Paste: Each section below contains a prompt designed for you to paste directly into your AI.
  • The Interview: The AI will interview you with targeted questions.
  • Create the Document: After the interview, the AI will synthesize your answers into a reference document.
  • Save this Master File: Keep these files in a dedicated folder (e.g., “AI Context Docs”) and reference them in future conversations.

Context Files

1. Personal Context File

1. Personal "About Me" context file
(Think identity and expertise)

Purpose: Use this prompt to codify your core values, identity, and “Internal Compass.” It acts as the foundational filter for every personal interaction, ensuring the AI aligns with who you actually are, not a generic persona.

The Goal: This is for “Deep Alignment” moments. It helps the AI understand your “uncomfortable truths,” your non-negotiables, and how you want to move through the world. It’s designed to bridge the gap between surface-level chat and meaningful, value-driven partnership.

Functionality: This file defines your “Life Philosophy.” Whether that’s stoic and disciplined, or empathetic and fluid. It outlines the principles that drive your decisions and the “Inconsistencies” the AI should watch for and challenge. It’s about integrity, self-awareness, and “Authentic Intent” clarity.

Takeaway: Once this is complete, the AI won’t just “process data.” It will think like your most trusted advisor. It will know your “Hill to Die On” values, identify when a project is drifting away from your core mission, and provide strategic advice that aligns with your actual DNA - not just a generic success template.

2. Professional Context File

2. Professional "Voice" context file
(Think tone and style)

Purpose: Use this prompt to extract your “Voice DNA” from your existing work and set the boundaries for how the AI should, and should not, write in a professional setting. It is the “Professional Shield” designed to kill “Robot Speak” and generic corporate fluff.

The Goal: This is for “High-Stakes” moments. It outlines your specific role, your core responsibilities, and exactly how you communicate with leadership. It’s built for maximum efficiency, emphasizing data points, punchy delivery, and “Action Required” clarity.

Functionality: This file defines your “Professional Persona.” It dictates whether you sound provocative and bold or academic and precise. It lists your “Forbidden Words” (like synergy or additionally) and the “Power Words” you actually use to drive impact. It ensures every output feels like it came from your desk, not a server.

Takeaway: Once these are answered, the AI won’t just “write an email.” It will write your email. It will know when to use the “Professional Shield” to protect your time and when to use “Human Light” to build the relationship.
